This week I was fortunate enough to travel to London to go and film for an organisation called MyBnk which is “Empowering young people to take charge of their future by bringing money to life”. So what does that mean?
We were down filming one of their latest projects called “The Money House”. This is a place where young people looking for housing can go to learn about finance so that they have a headstart in being able to pay bills, find employment and live a more fulfilling life.
So why was I filming for them? A company that my Dad works closely with is PIMCO, an investment company.
They run a program called Purpose at PIMCO, where they work to give, act and advocate good change in the world. One of their projects was to help set up The Money House, I was lucky enough to come to London for a day to film and photograph them doing their work for their social media pages and for a press release.
While I was there I spoke to Nick who educates young adults at The Money House.
Nick talked to me about everything that he does to help the young adults - how he teaches them about ways of making money, financial stability and paying bills. It was a very valuable experience for me to learn about all of these things that I had never heard about before - especially tax!
Nick used to be a magician and talked about how he made money from doing magic and how this was a great example of starting to earn money early on in your life. He talked about where he went wrong as well, not spending the money that he had earned on more magic tricks (good idea) and instead of spending it on useless things (bad idea). I suppose the moral is that you should invest back into your source of income if it is doing well.
Their organisation really is about giving these people a head start which is really important, so if you get the chance when you are in London, go check it out, and if you know about a young person that could benefit from the work of the money house, you can refer them on the MyBnk website.
As always, thanks for reading, this isn’t something I usually would write about so let me know if you think this is something you’d like to see more of by leaving a comment or a like (You don’t even need to sign up!).
Cheers,
Elliot.
